VEF has a bad start in the 2017/2018 season. Janis Gailitis’ team won only one game of five. However, we shouldn’t underestimate Riga. They have already played against new strong Khimki and starry CSKA. Two other opponents who managed to defeat VEF were Zenit and Nizhny.
Nevertheless, when it comes to less strong teams, the situation looks much brighter. VEF hammered Enisey in the previous round. So, it seems they will fight for a place in play-offs.
As for Lokomotiv Kuban, the basketball society considers that it has no problems with the teams which it shouldn’t have problems with this season. Kalev was defeated in Round 1. No difficulties occurred in games against Nizhny Novgorod and Avtodor.
Loko improved its team rating due to scoring more than 90 in the last five games in all championships. Krasnodar takes the third place both in points and defense in the VTB United League.
Last time, Loko played against Avtodor on the road and managed to equal the League’s record in the score advantage in a quarter.
Rolands Freimanis joined VEF ahead of the season. The Latvian forward was the top scorer (12.7) and top rebounder (5.7) of the team in first three games. Considering it was too easy for him, Rolands moved to Turkey. Now Alex Perez and Mareks Mejeris have to carry the can.
A slight tension didn’t let Chris Babb participate in hammering Avtodor. However, he is still the top scorer of the team (13). Centers Brian Qvale and Frank Elegar took the second place in scoring (12.3).
Dmitry Kulagin, Guard of PBC Lokomotiv Kuban:
- VEF is a good athletic team that plays an organized basketball. I think individual fights will determine the final result. The one who is ready to fight for each inch of the court will win. We are happy to play at home with the support of our fans. We will do our best to make the game spectacular for them.
